What is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is blood plasma that has been enriched with platelets. PRP is rich in growth factors, so when PRP is applied to the scalp it can contribute to hair growth.

      PRP is great for correcting:

      • Thinning Hair
      • Thinning eyebrows

      How is PRP made?

      PRP Hair Restoration Tampa

Platelets for PRP are made from the patient's own blood. It is similar to a patient donating his or her blood before a surgical procedure. This is what the process entails.

      • First, blood is withdrawn from the patient into tubes.
      • Next, the blood is placed in a centrifuge and spun around.
      • The centrifuge process concentrates the red and white blood cells and platelets in different levels in the tubes. Blood plasma that is rich in platelets is taken out and is readied for the application process.

How is PRP used for hair restoration?

After the concentration of the PRP, we may choose to either apply the PRP directly to the scalp followed by micro-needling or inject small amounts at multiple locations where the hair is thinning. We may also decide to do both. The PRP then triggers the body's natural healing instincts.

Research indicates that PRP promotes hair growth by stimulating hair follicle. The platelet growth factors induce follicles to shift from a dormant state to an active state, and that starts the process of hair production.

We also offer Adult Adipose (fat) hair loss treatment, the most advanced means of hair restoration available today.

For better results, our patients have the option to combine PRP with ACell Technology or Adult Adipose (fat). When PRP is combined with ACell Technology or Adult Adipose patients can achieve better results with as few as 1 treatments per year for women and 1-2 treatments per year for men. Women may respond better than men to PRP Therapy alone for Hair Loss treatment, but our state of the art centrifuge machine has helped to narrow this gap.

Also using Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) has been proven to promote hair growth in males and females but women have responded better.

A high patient satisfaction rate can be achieved when PRP for Hair Loss is used in combination with other modalities or therapies or if done alone, when a state of the art centrifuge machine is used.

Who are good candidates for PRP for hair restoration?

PRP for hair restoration is best for patients whose hair is starting to thin.

Patients who have an active infection on the scalp, diabetes, and are on blood thinning medications are not good candidates for PRP.
